River Duff
Counties Leitrim and Sligo, Ireland

The River Duff flows some 13 km south west of Ballyshannon and Belleek. For parts of its course it forms the border between Counties Leitrim and Sligo. It almost certainly gets its name from the gaelic origin of the word Duff. Nearby are Bunduff, Bunduff Lough, Bunduff Strand, Carnduff, Derryduff, Mullanyduff, none of which were visited because of the gloomy, one could say "Duff", weather at the time! The habitation around the N15 bridge over the river, where these pictures were taken, is known as Bunduff Bridge.

Looking upstream

Above, looking upstream towards the mountains - note the brown and dark tints to the water which was flowing very fast when we visited because the day before there had been exceptionally heavy rain and parts of the north of Ireland had become flooded.
Below, looking downstream and you can just make out the sea - Donegal Bay - with the mountainous area around Carrigan Head in the distance.
