site of 50 Kingston Hill

Robert James Duff died at 50 Kingston Hill on the 26th October 1896. According to a published history of Kingston there were houses for homeless men - part of the Union Workhouse (which was in Coombe Lane) - at this location. Today it is part of the Kingston Hospital, which takes up an entire large block on Kingston Hill also including Kingston Register Office, which was once the building of the Guardians of the Union Workhouse. Photographed in September 2008, the buildings on the corner of Kingston Hill and Wolverton Avenue - once (still are?) the Nurses' Home - are amongst the oldest on the much re-developed site.

Over the years, countless members of the family have been born, been attended to and died in Kingston Hospital!
