site of Elm Road

Elm House council flats, hailing from the 1950s(?), in Elm Road is the site of 162 Elm Road where in 1901 William Charles Duff, youngest son of Robert James and Phoebe, is shown in the census as working as a Greengrocer's Assistant. During World War Two a large bomb dropped on this site at 7pm on 29th December 1940, which is probably why the original buildings were replaced.

Funnily enough the Webmaster's best friend whilst at Primary School lived on the top floor of Elm House!
