Kingston Cemetery

Once the Duffs had settled in Kingston-upon-Thames it was inevitable that many members of the family would be buried or have their ashes scattered in Kingston Cemetery. We have not yet undertaken any special research into family burials, though the following became apparent during other research. It would be very surprising if there are not more relatives buried there.

We have annotated a map of the cemetery with the positions of known family plots. Because of the level of detail it is not possible to reproduce it well on a web page. Please click on the graphic to the right to download a map in Adobe Acrobat (*.pdf) format which will also print well onto an A4 sheet of paper.

It is acknowledged that the copyright of the cemetery map belongs to Kingston Corporation. The maps they issue at the cemetery being multi-generation photocopies, they are not of the clearest quality.

James Duff (deceased 1891) - E7 register 1653
John Duff (deceased 1871) - E8 register 4494
Robert James Duff (deceased 1896) - E166A register 18564

These three plots were re-used in the 1960s and there is no visible trace of our relatives there. However, their burials remain recorded in the cemetery registers.

Ellen E. Duff (neé Golder, deceased 1930), Robert James Duff (deceased 1931) and Leonard E. Duff (deceased 1940) - Ccon 5822

The head stone could do with a some cleaning. Maintenance of the plot can only be done with the permission of the registered owner, who is the late Charles Albert Duff. To re-register the plot to someone living in order to undertake maintenance requires the written consent of all living relatives from Duff family, all of whom would need tracing and contacting.

Alice Maud Duff ( neé Babbage, deceased 1969) and the ashes of Charles Albert Duff (deceased 1972), also Alice Babbage (deceased 1946) and James Babbage (deceased 1951) - Acon 1295

The head stone has been laid on the ground for safety and could do with a thorough cleaning. Maintenance of the plot can only be done with the permission of the registered owner, who is the late Charles Albert Duff. To re-register the plot to someone living in order to undertake maintenance requires the written consent of all living relatives from the Babbage and Duff families, all of whom would need tracing and contacting.

Albert Duff (deceased 1959) and the ashes of Maria Ada Duff (neé Wheal, deceased 1977), Albert Edward Duff (deceased 1992) and Joan Kathleen Duff (neé Gammon, deceased 2007) - Dcon 2958

Following the death of Joan Duff in 2007, this plot, which had remained registered in the name of Maria Duff, was - with the consent of surviving relatives - registered to Colin Duff so the original head stone could be replaced (actually done in 2008) with a larger stone with room to include Joan and potentially two further members of this branch of the family.
